Planet Youth Haldimand-Norfolk

A youth substance use prevention model

Planet Youth Survey of Grade 10 students happening December 2025!

We’re inviting all Haldimand and Norfolk Grade 10 teachers to register your classes for the upcoming Planet Youth Survey this December 2025!

Conducted in partnership with Grand Erie Public Health, the survey takes 30–40 minutes and explores key aspects of students’ lives—home, school, peers, leisure time, substance use, and general well-being—to help identify local risk and protective factors.

The data collected will directly guide community initiatives that help make Haldimand and Norfolk a place where young people can truly thrive.

Please contact Lina Hassen (lhassen@geph.ca ) or Josh Daley (jdaley@geph.ca) to sign up your class.

Be on the lookout for an information letter about the Planet Youth survey. It should be sent home in mid to late November 2025.

We encourage you to read the information and have your child participate in the survey.

Planet Youth is based on the Icelandic Prevention Model, a proven approach to reducing alcohol, tobacco and drug use among young people and improving their wellbeing.

Planet Youth empowers communities to work together to address the root causes of early substance use. The model’s whole-population approach aims to reduce the risk factors that increase the likelihood of early substance use, and most importantly, to strengthen the protective factors that can prevent it.

The Icelandic experience

Since the Planet Youth model was introduced there in 1998, youth substance use has dropped by up to 85%.
